| The fourth generation of Chevrolet's legendary Camaro Z28 was introduced in 1993. This clean 1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 illustrates why these 1993-2002 fourth generation Camaros were so popular when new and remain so today. Edmunds was impressed enough with the Z28 to rave ""The Z is blazingly quick, holds the road tenaciously, costs less than the average price of a new car in this country, and gets decent gas mileage when it's not being hammered along a twisty two-lane road."" With a well-established reputation on the market, the Camaro Z28 received new front-end styling and gained more muscle for the 1998 model year. The engine bay is clean and features a 5.7-litre fuel-injected LS-1 engine mated to a 4-speed automatic 4L60E automatic transmission. Replacing the LT1 engine from the previous year's Camaro was the all-new 5.7 LS1 V8 engine introduced a year prior in the 1997 Corvette, generating 350 hp at the flywheel but marketed as 310 hp in the Camaro as to not deter sales from the Corvette. The new engine featured an aluminum cylinder block with iron sleeves, reducing weight by about 95 lb as compared to the iron block LT1 engine. The only changes made to the LS1 compared to the Corvette were the relocation of drive belt accessories to accommodate the Camaro's engine bay, an oil pan tailored to the F-body, as well as opting for a cable-actuated throttle body, as opposed to the Corvette's drive-by-wire.
