1970 Plymouth Superbird
Only an estimated 43 Petty Blue Superbirds made total! Galen Govier verified it's an original Petty Blue car. It is the most desirable and rarest color. Why 43 made? To honor Richard Petty's number: 43. He was ""The King"" of NASCAR. Only 1,920 Superbirds were made total, only 1 year production. This one has received a stunning ground up refurbishment by a professional shop. We have a stack of receipts. It's powered by the correct date coded 440 with a Six Barrel upgrade. This Superbird is one of the wildest production cars ever made. Only 1,920 Superbirds ever made total in any configuration. Superbird Story: In 1969 the Dodge Daytona was built to win NASCAR races. The engineers at Mopar squeezed all the horsepower they could out of their cars, so they called in a rocket scientist to increase speed with aerodynamics. Every bend, curve and arch served a purpose. It wasn't for show, it was to win races and that is what it did. It was the first car to ever exceed 200 mph on a closed-circuit track. Over at Plymouth their star NASCAR driver, Richard Petty, was handicapped by the limitations of the Road Runner so he jumped ship and went to Ford. In 1970 it was Plymouth that would carry on the Winged Warrior program with the Superbird. It was an attempt to lure back Petty and win races, both were achieved. As a matter of fact, it won so many races it caused its own demise. The top speeds these cars were achieving caused NASCAR to change their rules which brought a quick end to the Winged Warriors. NASCAR regulations said the manufacturers had to offer whatever they were racing as a production car to the public. They were rather obnoxious looking and impractical as an everyday car. They collected dust at the dealer showrooms, some dealers went as far as to remove the nose and wing. Today they are considered the holy grail of muscle cars! EXTERIOR: 1 of 43 factory Petty Blue cars, by far the most desirable color! Spoilers, scoops, and nose cone, this original Superbird has it all! The paint was applied with great detail then polished to a slick finish. Looking down the side of the body it is straight as a laser beam with smooth contours and crisp lines. The panels are all nicely aligned with great gaps. They actually used Coronet fenders to match the extended hood. They all had vinyl tops to cover the modifications to the rear window. The bold decals are in excellent shape. The vinyl top looks fresh. The glass is in good shape including the pushed out rear window. The windshield pillars are capped in stainless trim for aerodynamics. The hideaway headlights are in working condition. The rear bumper was rechromed and has a beautiful shine. It's sitting on 15"" Rallye wheels that are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. INTERIOR: Rare and desirable! Bucket seats with center console typically adds $10,000 to the price of these cars. Both the front and rear seats have been totally refurbished and are very comfy. It has seatbelts front and back. The center console and shifter look to be original but in great shape. The door panels and rear side panels were all replaced and look fantastic too. The dash pad is in great shape with no cracks. The remainder of the dash, gauge bezel, and Rallye gauges all appear to be originals that are in very nice condition. The steering wheel and column appear to be original as well. The headliner does not sag, and the carpeting was replaced. All the interior light are working too. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Nice looking 440 Six Barrel here! Professionally refurbished! The radiator and wiper motor both look fresh. The squirters are hooked up. It's equipped with power steering and power brakes. The high flow exhaust manifolds are just too cool. The battery is properly secured and has a reproduction topper. Of course, the famous purple ""beep beep"" horn is hooked up and working. The underside of the trunk lid, fender wells, and firewall are all painted Petty Blue just like the body. The original fender tag is still in place. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the trunk, lid and jamb are painted slick just like the body. A reproduction sticker was added and the weatherstrip was replaced.
