Honda Civic Type R chief engineer Hideki Kakinuma says theres more to come from Honda s hottest hatchback, that the company has yet to reach the limits of front-drive performance. The 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition proves the point: Theres no bump in power over the regular Civic Type R , but the Limited Editions lighter weight, sharpened suspension, and recalibrated steering promise incremental improvements in both performance and handling. Only 1,000 Type R Limited Edition models will be built, and 600 have been earmarked for the U.S., with the first cars arriving stateside this year. The Limited Edition will be available in just one colorPhoenix Yellowand all 600 will be individually numbered. The Type R Limited Edition gets the same visual and technical upgrades as the 2020 Type R , including the redesigned grille, lighter two-piece front brake rotors, reprogrammed software for the adaptive shocks, stiffer suspension bushings front and rear, and lower-friction ball joints, as well as the new app-based Honda LogR data-logging system . Unique to the Limited Editionin addition to that brilliant yellow paint job with black accents on the hood, mirrors, and roofare lightweight 20-inch forged BBS wheels that reduce unsprung weight by 18 pounds. Removal of sound-deadening materials, the rear wiper, rear load-space cover, and the rear heater ducts has saved a further 28 pounds.
