2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 arrives with over 1,000 hp

Chevrolet has revealed the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the most powerful member of the C8 Corvette lineup to date, featuring numerous performance and design updates. Powering the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is Chevrolet's new 5.5-lt LT7 V8, a derivative of the engine found on the Z06, though with quite a few upgrades. This LT7 engine shares the same flat-plane crankshaft and a pair of camshafts handling the valves over each cylinder bank as the one in the Z06 while adding revised pistons, bigger wrist pins, updated connecting rods, and an extra oil scavenging stage. Additional updates include a redesigned intake manifold with two throttle bodies and new cylinder heads and camshafts. The real star of this new engine is the set of 76 mm single-scroll turbochargers, which send its performance ratings into the stratosphere, for 1,064 hp and 828 lb-ft of torque. That's a full 394 hp more than the Z06. [ See image gallery at www.thetorquereport.com ] Chevrolet has yet to release 0-60 mph numbers for the new ZR1 but has said it will be capable of reaching 215 mph and completing the quarter-mile in under 10 seconds. All of this newfound power is sent through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, that feeds it out to the rear wheels. This transmission has been upgraded with a new set of gears that feature increased output and input shaft size, as well as revised valve tuning to handle the increased power. Exterior updates are extensive and primarily focused on improving the vehicle's performance through enhanced cooling and aerodynamics. A new flow-through hood helps improve cooling and provides more downforce at the front end. Air ducts have also been added along the side to help cool the rear brakes, with additional ducts added to the engine cover to help feed the turbochargers. Additional updates to the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1's body include a carbon fiber roof and front splitter as well as adjustable short and tall wicker spoilers. Last but certainly not least, coupe versions of the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 feature a split rear window arrangement as a tribute to the legendary one found on the 1963 C2 Corvette. This new split window is not all show, as it also includes additional vents to help cool the engine compartment. Buyers will also get new wheels with 20 inches up front and 21 inches in the rear, available in four different finishes, with carbon fiber rims being optional for even more weight savings. The inside of the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 also sees a few changes, including some ZR1 badging, an interior plaque that calls out the vehicle's 1,064 hp rating, and a new boost gauge to compliment the new turbochargers. Buyers will also find ZR1-specific stitching patterns on the door panels, as well as a new Habenero interior color option. A ZTK Performance Package brings a host of additional performance-focused upgrades, including enhanced underbody aero, dive planes, and a massive carbon fiber rear wing that together generates up to 1,200 lbs of extra downforce. The ZTK package also adds stiffer springs, a recalibrated magnetic damping system (which is standard on all ZR1s), and upgraded Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2-R tires. The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 receives a new braking system to bring all that new performance to a safe stop. Buyers will find 15.7-inch carbon-ceramic rotors with six-piston calipers up front and 15.4-inch rotors with four-piston calipers at the rear. Chevy says braking performance is 22% improved over the previous generation C7 ZR1 and can take the new ZR1 from 80 to 200 and back to 80 mph in just 24.5 seconds. The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will be available in the US next year, with more details being released, including pricing information, closer to that time.
