1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

Description:

This loaded Trans Am car is a survivor! Said to have just over 26,800 miles since new. It was parked in 1990 until recently and it went through a service and a repaint. Great color combination and documented with a build sheet full of options. This is the epitome of late 1970's sports cars!

EXTERIOR: From the shaker hood with its "screaming chicken" decal to the snowflake rims, scoops and spoilers this T/A is at the pinnacle of styling for its era! The body is in excellent condition, no rust or damage. The spoilers and rubber bumpers are all in excellent shape and fit right. Repainted only 1 time, the jambs are still original. Beautiful Indy Silver is laid out real nice and has a wet looking clear coat. All new reproduction decals. Weatherstrips look like they were replaced. It has the good looking 15x8 snowflake rims in excellent shape and are wrapped in 245/60R15 Hankook radials. All the glass appears original. The taillights also appear to be original. This car looks totally rad!

INTERIOR: This interior is just incredible! It's a red deluxe velour and it looks great against the silver. It's in excellent shape, very well preserved. The seats look so good because they were protected with sheep skin seat covers, remember those? The headliner is in exceptional condition, not dropping. The visors are original, but the vinyl has gotten a little loose over the years. The dash area looks great. It has machine turned trim around the rally gauges. The odometer currently reads 26,806 miles. Old school stereo with an Audiovox equalizer and Craig speakers have been added to the center console. The center console itself is in fantastic shape but does have one small knick and the vinyl. The car has power windows, power door locks and rear defroster. The door panels appear to be original and are in remarkable condition. The formula wheel is mint and on a tilt column steering column and wheel are original and in very good condition. The carpeting looks original and is in exceptional condition. It just blows my mind that an over 40-year-old interior was preserved this well!

ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Open the hood and you'll instantly be transferred back to 1979! To my eye this looks like a virtually untouched engine bay outside of regular maintenance items. Let's start with the factory shaker hood with 6.6 callouts on the side, it's iconic and complete with all its proper duct work, heat riser tube and drain hose. It's packed full of other goodies too: factory a/c, power steering, power brakes and cruise control. The a/c compressor was replaced, and it is upgraded to R134 freon. It is very complete and original. Touched up a little to look good, maintained as needed to function good. Originality is the key to this engine bay!

TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Hit the yellow button in the glove box and the trunk pops open! Inside is a time capsule. The bottom side of the lid and jamb is original paint with its original stickers in place. The weather stripping has been replaced. It has its original collapsible spare tire with compressed air canister. The complete jack is still mounted under the speaker shelf. Under the original black carpet is clean metal. An Audiovox power antenna was added to go along with that killer sound system! This is a clean and complete trunk by all means!

UNDERSIDE: The underside of this car is clean and original. It has typical ware that is consistent with a 28,000 mile vehicle, maintained as needed since new. It has the WS7 performance suspension which included hd springs, shocks, swaybars, a quick ratio steering box and wider wheels. It does have the front power disc brakes, the e-brake is hooked up. The catalytic converter is new, mufflers and tailpipes were replaced and have the cool splitter tips. Looking up at the motor it appears clean and original. The #s matching Turbo 350 transmission also appears clean. Original 10 bolt posi rear end with a cruising gear. The underbody has been undercoated apparently from the factory and looks solid. What an amazing undercarriage that displays all the signs of a low mileage car!

SERVICE: Our professional team of mechanics has completed a thorough inspection of this car and replaced the following items: catalytic converter and the idler arm. This car is ready to cruise with confidence!

This is a special opportunity to own a piece of automotive history! With less than 27,000 miles on the odometer, finding a gem like this is nearly impossible! And I love the colors, all the options make it that much better too. This clean and mostly original example that has been lovingly preserved and maintained for future generations to admire and enjoy!

I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year membership.
