1958 Chevrolet 3200 Series Apache Pickup

Description:

1958 Chevrolet 3200 Series Apache Pickup

Part of the Task Force line of Chevy trucks from 1955 to 1959, the ton Apache was considered a light duty truck that combined a strong engine, a tall cab, and a usable bed. In 1958, a redesign included four headlights instead of two and factory air conditioning was offered for the first time.

For consignment, a 1958 Chevrolet 3200 Series Apache pickup in a stunning combination of pearl white and dark green, a step side bed, and many new components that render this truck drivable and enjoyable any day of the week! It's been driven just 161 miles since the engine and transmission rebuild and the owner says he came home from every show with a trophy. We have no doubt.

Exterior
Two stage Pearl White paint is crisp as fresh snow cover and the Dark Ivy Green metallic on the roof, tailgate, wheels openings and rocker panel is a sharp contrast of two colors we rarely see, but is happily welcome. It's a beautiful truck and the '58's grille may be more narrow than previous years but retains all the drama with lengths of bold chrome bars and integrated marker lights over a huge chrome bumper, all in fantastic condition. The Apache nameplate on the side is sharp with Chevrolet surrounded in unmarred black paint. Window frames, side mirror, door handles, gas tank cap, all looking show ready and the oak planks in the bed are not overly glossy and provide a handsome floor, white metal rails blending flawlessly with the bedsides. 15-inch black steel wheels are enhanced with chrome spider hubcaps and beauty rings, while chrome dual exhaust shine out back and a covered spare wheel is mounted on the side. We could barely find flaws in the exterior presentation save for a few minor inclusions and imperfections.

Interior
A mirror like finish on the green and white paint that covers the metal on the inner doors over wide white door sills and painted jambs draw you inside. There we find the green bench seat that is augmented by white piping, a white center panel, and even white stitching to bring the palette together in a clean execution. A white rimmed steering wheel has chrome spokes that match the chrome column where the chrome shifter is housed. The gauge cluster is a diamond shaped affair with an arching speedometer and essential information lined above it. Metallic green paint washes over the entire metal dash and the center holds an AM/FM radio and the climate controls in front of the vintage chrome plate. A rubberized mat covers the entire floor cleanly and a black plastic headliner provides a decorative touch to the cab ceiling that is otherwise painted white.

Drivetrain
Pop the external release and open the cavernous hood to find a great looking rebuilt 350ci V8 with 3 2-barrel Holley carburetors perched on the intake and surrounded by polished parts and finned valve covers. A TH400 3-speed automatic sends power to the 10-bolt rear axle and power brakes are supplied with disc up front and drums in the rear. An aluminum radiator handles the engine cooling and the consignor states all new lines were redone three years ago.

Undercarriage
The very clean underside starts with stainless steel dual exhaust that enters Magnaflow mufflers before heading out back. Equipped with power steering, the rack is in great shape with perfect boots. Very little surface rust exists underneath and there are no oil leaks either. Suspension consists of leaf spring front and rear.

Drive-Ability
The three carbs work in tune and the 350 comes to life with a song singing through the dual exhaust. Into Drive we go and out onto the test loop where power steering and power brakes provide some modern amenities to this beautiful classic. All systems go as the simple, efficient features of the truck that include lights, gauges, horn, and radio work as expected. Then it's onto the truck room at Classic Auto Mall where it shines in the light.

This is a fantastic show truck with spectacular paint, a potent engine, and a spotless interior. There may be no such thing as a perfect vehicle, but have no doubt the next owner, if he or she so chooses, will be winning attention and awards wherever the truck is taken.
