All-new fifth-generation 2025 Ford Expedition revealed

Ford has revealed the all-new 2025 Ford Expedition, the fifth generation of the company's largest SUV. Outside, the 2025 Ford Expedition is clearly an evolution of the current model, with the most prominent upgrades happening to the truck's front end. A new grille and headlight arrangement form a distinctive front signature with a light bar running across the bottom of the grille that connects the daytime running lights in each headlight. Front grille treatments vary between trim lines. A very long, linear side profile is joined by an updated rear featuring redesigned taillights, not entirely dissimilar from the units found on the Chevrolet Suburban. As a whole, the new Expedition is a logical development of the model's design language and is sure not to ruffle the feathers of anyone who likes the current look. Buyers will be able to choose between standard wheelbase or extended-length Max versions. [ See image gallery at www.thetorquereport.com ] Ford has put a big emphasis on versatility with the 2025 Expedition, arriving with a new split tailgate that Ford is keen to mention the only one currently available in its class. The top three-quarters of this new trick tailgate raises like a traditional tailgate, with the lower quarter folding down like a truck's tailgate. This lower section can support up to 500 pounds and features a fold-down seatback if buyers opt for the Cargo Tailgate Manager option. If your hands are full, simply stand by the tailgate, and it will power open automatically. An available exterior zone lighting system provides four independent exterior lighting zones around the vehicle to provide light for camping or tailgating situations, which can be controlled through the vehicle's infotainment screen. Inside, you wouldn't be far off to think of the 2025 Ford Expedition as a Lincoln Navigator-lite with a new dash featuring an abundance of screens. A new Ford Digital Experience features a 24-inch panoramic digital display positioned up against the base of the windshield to help keep the steering wheel from obstructing it. This panoramic display replaces the usual digital driver's display as it includes the speedometer, among other things. Buyers will find Google Assistant integration with Amazon Alexa as an optional backup. Both systems will be capable of controlling vehicle systems such as climate control and setting navigation destinations, and can also make calls and respond to texts. Wifi hotspot capability, Google Play store apps, and Google Maps integration will also be available. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard as well. Just as with the exterior, versatility is the name of the game inside, with an available power-operated center console between the two front seats that can be moved forward or back by up to 8 inches to accommodate bags or purses while giving second-row passengers easier access to the audio and climate controls embedded in the back of the said console. A Third-Row Flexible Seating package allows the middle of the rear bench to fold down to create a clear center aisle down the middle of the new Expedition to accommodate long items such as skis and fishing poles. A new Digital Device Holder system allows backseat passengers to easily mount their handheld entertainment devices, like smartphones and tablets, to the back of the seats in front of them no doubt a boon for bored backseat riders. All 2025 Ford Expeditions get Ford Co-Pilot 360 Assist 2.0, Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering and Stop & Go, and a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel. An upgraded version of Ford's BlueCruise hands-free highway driving assist system will also be available and come standard on Platinum, King Ranch, Tremor, and Active trims. Ford says this new version delivers a smoother, more natural self-driving experience and features hands-free lane changes. Active, King Ranch and Platinum Expeditions arrive motivated by a 3.5-lt EcoBoost V6 making 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. A more powerful high output 3.5-lt EcoBoost V6 making 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque is standard on the new Tremor trim and optional on Platinum models. This new off-road-focused Tremor trim also brings a host of other upgrades. These upgrades include an electronic locking differential, trail turn assist, rock crawl more, a higher suspension, off-road grille lighting, enhanced underbody protection, and 33 General Grabber all-terrain tires. The 2025 Ford Expedition features new trailer towing technology, including Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, which uses the rear camera and corner radar sensors to precisely align the tow hitch and trailer coupler. The system automatically controls the Expedition's speed, steering, and braking during the entire process as well. Buyers will enjoy up to 7,000 pounds of towing capacity without the need for a load-leveling bar and up to 9,600 pounds with a weight-distributing hitch. Order books for the 2025 Ford Expedition open on October 24th, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2025.
