Originally delivered to a U.S. Air Force Major, this 1947 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible spent its early years in Texas and New Mexico. In 1961, its second owner brought it to Ohio, where he enjoyed it briefly before commissioning a rebuild. The engine was restored by Mr. Univick, an automotive instructor at East Tech High School, while Bill’s Automatic Transmission rebuilt the 4-speed Hydra-Matic. Completed in 1962 at just 60,000 miles, the car has logged only about 2,000 miles since and remained mostly in storage for decades.

In 1977, the car caught the attention of Mark, who worked next to the storage building and befriended Mr. Univick’s son. After years of admiration, Mark acquired the Cadillac in 1999 as Mr. Univick’s health declined. He quickly got the car running, giving its longtime caretaker one final ride before his passing.

Mark, a seasoned bodywork and repair instructor, knew the car’s value. Exceptionally straight and rust-free, it offered a pristine foundation for restoration. Though life delayed progress, retirement during the COVID-19 pandemic reignited the project, and by 2023, the body restoration was completed to showroom standards. Every non-painted nut and bolt on the chassis was removed, cleaned, and polished. The result is a car that looks factory-fresh, with flawless paint, replated chrome, and a new convertible top by Portage Trim.

Finished in black over a matching red interior, this Series 62 Convertible is equipped with a power-operated top, windows, and seat—all functioning as they should. The original gauges are clear and operational, the factory steering wheel remains in excellent condition, and the original top boot is still intact. The 4-speed Hydra-Matic transmission pairs beautifully with the rebuilt engine, which has seen just 700 miles since completion. The car includes original spare components such as the generator and starter.

Few postwar American convertibles offer this level of craftsmanship, originality, and preservation. Beautifully restored and deeply documented, this Cadillac is an exceptional example of late-1940s luxury motoring.
