Description:

1965 Chevrolet Malibu SS Hardtop

The storied Chevelle is one of those timeless designs that looks good no matter how it's built. Stock, modified, race, pro-touring, whatever; the clean lines and balanced stance on these tough classics create a confident swagger that's universally admired. That means, if you're looking to ride in style, you really can't go wrong with a Chevrolet A-body. Plus, when you factor in this ride's drivetrain, tastefully restored interior and all American sheet metal, you get the picturesque profile of an incredible muscle car!

For consignment, a 1965 Chevrolet Malibu SS hardtop. A solid running true Super Sport that's well sorted and ready for a new home. It has some mods that increase reliability and safety and for providing tunes that will accompany the engine notes all the way down the road!

Exterior
Finished in two stage Madeira Maroon paint, the car glistens in the sun and is going to look great under our lights. The dual headlights are embedded in the grille that is primarily black and accented with chromed bands and the bowtie emblem. 350 twin flag fender emblems have been added to coincide with what's under the hood, but more on that soon. Metal window trim, mirrors, door handles, and bumper chrome all look great, and so do the coveted Malibu SS emblems on the rear quarter panels. The rear fascia is busy with a trim piece that frames the taillights continues across the middle, two more lines inside the lights and two broad bands across the middle with Chevrolet spelled out between them. Reverse lights are fixed in the chrome bumper which splits to allow the license plate. 14-inch Cragar Street Stars wear 70 series tires under different sized wheel openings that create a slightly aggressive stance. Imperfections include flaking paint on the fender around the grille, slight shade discrepancy of the thin panel that runs under the grille, some unevenness of a repaired spot, a scuff near a gap, a spider crack in the paint, and a small scratch. Our illustrious team also noticed some waviness on the passenger side panels when viewed in a particular light.

Interior
Stitch patterned black vinyl make up the door panels which are topped with a black painted header and separated by a trim piece. This pattern continues on the back seat walls of the car creating an almost seamless flow of the pattern. Low back bucket seats are black vinyl wrapped tautly over foam and backed by a polished metal shell all in great shape, and the rear bench looks brand new. A 3 spoke steering wheel, while not original, is a common choice for upgrades and fronts a metallic cove that houses the gauge cluster on a grooved, metal surround. There's an AM/FM radio in the dash but the sound comes from a modern Pioneer unit mounted in the glovebox. A trio of Sunpro gauges provide pertinent information to the driver and a Hurst Promatic 2 shifter is in the center console, another metallic structure with patina but lingering shine amongst the black loop carpet on the floor, this in fine shape and protected by rubber mats. Over our head is a stitched black headliner in good shape and the trunk is clean and partly covered with a plaid mat and houses two spare tires.

Drivetrain
We open the hood to find a very clean, show worthy 350ci V8 that our consignor states has been bored .060 over and stroked to 383 cubic inches. It's topped by an Edelbrock intake under an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and it's backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to the 10 bolt rear with 3.08 gears. Coated Patriot headers begin the exhaust process, and our consignor states a reduced gear starter is onboard. The presence of power steering is claimed and confirmed.

Undercarriage
Very little surface rust, no grease buildup, and dominated by flat black paint underneath makes for a clean underside. We note some residual oil on the rear differential but the pans up front appear dry. The dual exhaust flows into a pair of Super Turbo mufflers and then exits via downturned pipes under the back of the car. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and a 4 link with coil springs in the rear.

Drive-Ability
She started right up and bellowed with a healthy rumble as we rolled onto the test loop. Whoa! Those power brakes work well and are a bit touchy for the unsuspecting newbie, but we're glad they're on board to control the power, which is substantial here. The clean cabin provides a pleasant perch and just like that, this E-ticket ride is over. All functions work as intended and the hidden radio is a clever piece of trickery we've seen before. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

A handsome Malibu SS with seat belts, power brakes, power steering, added gauges, and a healthy heart. This is the complete package and a desirable model, and we're confident it will find a new home. The only question is, which side of the garage will you be keeping it?
