1967 Dodge Coronet 500

Description:

Awesome color combination on a desirable Coronet 500 hardtop. Recently built 390 cubic inch stroker motor (318-based) with estimated 450 horsepower. Gorgeous interior with console. Very solid car. A bit of a sleeper with a stunning look to go with it!

The first thing that everyone notices about this beautiful 1967 Dodge Charger 500 hardtop is the color-Medium Copper Metallic. And code TT1 is indeed this cars original color, making it somewhat unusual among all its black and red siblings. The second thing they notice is just how straight the bodywork is, suggesting that they not only started with a good car, but that someone spent the time to get it right before spraying any of that gorgeous copper paint. The angular Coronet bodywork remains one of Chryslers best designs of the 1960s, particularly that cantilevered roofline, making the car sporty but grown-up. The doors swing closed with a characteristic kerCHUNK and panel fit is quite good all around. This is an original V8 car (actually, it was a 318 car from new) so the V8 emblems on the flanks are honest and the chrome and stainless trim is nicely finished with a bright shine. Even the super-fine grille and tail panel look great without the usual heavy pitting. No modifications, no stripes, no add-ons, just a clean Mopar with a serious dose of firepower under the hood.

The copper bucket seat interior has to be the highlight of the car-its absolutely beautifully done. Anchored by brown carpets, its a testament to 1960s style at its peak. The center console is a nice feature, adding a bit of muscle car attitude to the low-key Coronet, along with Chryslers handsome shifter for the 3-speed automatic transmission underneath. The factory steering wheel is big and skinny, but power steering makes it effortless to wheel around, and it frames a full set of factory instruments augmented with a tachometer cleverly tucked in where the clock used to live. There is no radio, sadly, but that means you can install the entertainment system of your choice, although if it was ours, wed just find a factory block-off plate and call it done. That engine is plenty entertaining all by itself. A dark headliner keeps the interior from being copper overload and it fits quite well with no rips or sagging. And like most Chryslers of the period, the trunk is positively massive and features a correct plaid mat with the spare tire tucked underneath.

This car came from the factory with a 318 cubic inch V8, so it seems fitting that theres still a version of a 318 living under the hood today. Bored and stroked to 390 cubic inches, it features an Eagle forged rotating assembly, Icon .030 oversize flat-top pistons, a Mopar Performance "Purple" camshaft, Howards lifters, and a set of Edelbrock aluminum heads on top. Intake duties are performed by an aluminum Edelbrock Air Gap intake and Holley 4-barrel carburetor with an electronic ignition system to light the fires. Long-tube headers feed a fresh Flowmaster dual exhaust system which sounds spectacular. The TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic was rebuilt using a shift kit and a high stall torque converter to help get it off the line a little better, and there are now 3.55 gears on a limited slip in the 8.75-inch rear end. The underside has not been restored, but you will note that theres not rot or structural issues anywhere, making this an incredibly solid car. Front disc brakes were added in the name of safety, and the front suspension was rebuilt so it tracks straight and steers right. New shocks all around preserve that awesome torsion bar ride quality and a fresh gas tank out back ensures no fuel problems when you need it most. 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels are a great choice and carry staggered 225/70/15 front and 235/70/15 rear radials.

Documentation includes a factory assembly manual and a wiring diagram.

This is a really pretty car that attracts a ton of attention in our showroom. But under the skin, its a take-no-prisoners machine that wants to prowl the streets looking for a fight. If that kind of split personality appeals to you, then take a closer look. Theres a lot of money invested in this car and with a few tweaks it could easily be taken to the next level. Call today!
