1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Hardtop

Description:

1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Hardtop

In 1969, there were 18 color options for Camaros. LeMans Blue was the most common with 12.4% of Camaros leaving the plant in this color. In second place was Frost Green with 11.4% of the 243,045 Camaros wearing that shade. Champagne and Tuxedo Black are the least common, representing a combined 1.2% of coverage.

For consignment, a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 hardtop in Frost Green with the DZ 302ci V8 engine and X77 Z28 Performance Package. The engine was rebuilt in 2008 and the interior and exterior were restored at some point including the replacement of fenders and door skins.

Exterior
Lighter colors accentuate body lines and Frost Green is a great color to show the subtle body creases that extend from the wheel opening and streak towards the back. It also highlights the slightly raised fenders and shoulder line that emanates from the C-pillar. In 1969 the marker lights were moved off the grille leaving single headlights on the black egg crate grille and in this case, accompanied by a Z28 emblem. Chrome bumpers front and rear are in great shape as are the rims around the 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels and additional brightwork around the car. Black Z28 stripes are painted and flow over the rear spoiler while 1969 specific tail lights are embedded in the rear fascia over a pair of exhaust tips that protrude past it. The paint is spectacular, and we could not find any glaring exterior flaws save for a few minor chips and inclusions.

Interior
The restored interior presents in very clean condition starting with the black vinyl door panels with stitch patterned inserts and manual windows and locks. Tall bucket seats are showroom fresh and so is the rear bench where the sidewalls pick up on the patterned door vinyl. A 3 spoke wood rimmed steering wheel leads to a dash dominated by two gauges in square pods, a 120mph speedometer and a tach that redlines at 6,000 rpm. Woodgrain trim covers the panel below and surrounds the working Delco AM radio, however an AM/FM/Bluetooth capable radio is in the glovebox. The center console houses the quad gauge pod, square and canted upwards for the viewing of the driver. Dark grained woodgrain trim surrounds the Hurst shifter emerging from the depths of the center console, topped by a polished metal ball. Black loop carpet covers the floor perfectly and the headliner and visors are in great shape. A clean trunk is lined with a plaid mat cut to fit and this pattern covers the spare tire as well.

Drivetrain
Raising the green hood we find a show quality and consignor stated 302ci V8, topped by a 4-barrel carburetor and rated 290 horsepower. A Tremec TKO600 5-speed manual transmission sends the power to the rear 12 bolt with 3.73 gears which our consignor states is a Moser unit. Power brakes include disc up front and drums in the rear.

Undercarriage
Very clean underneath with only minor occurrences of surface rust. Dual exhaust meets chambered mufflers before exiting out back and the suspension configuration includes coil springs up front and leaf springs in the rear. We note some residual oil on the pan and on the rear differential, but no active leaks were observed. Wheel knuckles and other steering components are free of grease and grime build up and no road dirt appears underneath.

Drive-Ability
It's never a bad day when you're "forced" to take a DZ 302 for a ride and this one purrs out of the garage with a healthy growl and spotless body. It's all there, acceleration, braking, tracking, shifting, and comfort. Other than the cigarette lighter, everything works in the car including lights, wipers, radios, gauges, and turn signals. There is no air conditioning. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Well, Camaro fans, here's a well sorted beauty. And if you're not a classic Camaro fan, maybe this one will convert you. Despite it being a common color of Camaro in 1969, we don't see many at Classic Auto Mall, and even fewer in this condition. Here's a collector grade Z28 ready to take its spot in a new garage.
