1932 Ford Eighteen Roadster

Description:

1932 Ford Eighteen Roadster

Facing the heavy competition encountered from Chevrolet's highly popular 6 cylinder models introduced in 1929, the "second" Ford Model B, an improvement of the "second" Model A, entered production for the 1932 model but stood little chance against the Chevrolets. Fortunately, 1932 was also the year when Ford began producing a car with his new Flathead V8 engine. Thx Autoworldmuseum.com

For consignment, a 1932 Ford 18 roadster street rod with a title verified 12,058 actual miles on a build that was completed in 2003. Owned for 17 years by our consignor, this fiberglass bodied car packs a 392ci Hemi V8 on the frame and some tasty brown leather inside the cab.

Exterior
1932 Ford hot rods almost always drop the headlights down low and along with the fenderless sides, creates an iconic look that's been around since the 1940's. Panels are bathed in two stage Flame Red and so is the radiator shell, rear mounted gas tank, and frame. The rear view looks right out of American Graffiti with wide tires, a rounded trunk lid, tiny taillights, and a pair of pipeline-sized exhaust pipes. These exhausts are the B-option from the headers as short pipes extend beyond the engine compartment wearing block off plates to muffler what has to be an 8.9 on the Richter scale of sound. Meanwhile, 15-inch Halibrand wheels with massive disparity between tire sizes creates a classically hotrod raked stance. The black canvas top and its glass rear window are in great shape as is the paint and metalwork. We could not find any glaring exterior flaws on this Wescott's fiberglass body

Interior
Saddle brown leather is a beautiful contrast to the red and adorns the door panels which contain a pleated pocket map. The bench seat wears leather too and is trimmed with dark piping around the pleated insert. In front, a banjo style steering wheel fronts a tach on the column and a red painted dash with machined plate gauge pod in the center with AutoMeter retro styled black faced dials. The long arm shifter follows the curvature of the seat edge and presents a black knob to the driver, surrounded by black loop carpet mats in great condition. The footwell panels are covered in leather and clean while the wood braces of the convertible top present wonderfully.

Drivetrain
Large and blindingly polished, the valve covers on the 392ci V8 Hemi engine take center stage and pull your eyes away from the red for a minute. Our consignor states the engine has been bored .020 over making it 396ci and contains an Isky cam with .485 lift and 232 duration @.050. On top, dual 4-barrel Carter carburetors pump fuel into the Hemi while a Richmond 5-speed manual transmission sends power to the Ford 9" in back with 3.00 gears and TracLok. Buick drum brakes are found at every corner.

Undercarriage
Show quality underneath with most components painted red and what isn't red is either clean metal or highly polished, including the shock absorbers. The chassis is from the Deuce Frame Company and the front axle is from SoCal, the rear axle has been narrowed. Suspension consists of a 4 bar with a transverse leaf springs up front and in the rear. The exhaust underneath encounter glasspack style mufflers before exiting out back.

Drive-Ability
Settling into the sumptuous leather is a particular treat as so many cars utilize vinyl as the medium of choice. We sit low in the car and the narrow windshield is no problem as we light up the twin carbs and turn the key to witness an appropriate Hot Rod cacophony of sound. The Hemi, of 1957 vintage, has remarkable power and a tell tale cam cadence. We're not sure what the horsepower to weight ratio is on this rod, but we're not about to flog it and risk losing traction. As is, it runs well, tracks and handles stupendously, and stops with adequate authority. All functions work on this well built rod. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Great stance, check. Nice paint, check. A sweet clean interior, check. A Hemi, check mate! What doesn't this car have? A new owner. Your move. Don't be a pawn. Advance like a Knight so that you can be a King in this stunning red rod.
