This 1968 Dodge Charger was treated to a complete restoration, transforming the 318 small block into a 440 Big Block bruiser. Originally equipped as a 4-speed car, the floor shifter remains, now backed by an 18 spline HEMI spec A833 transmission. The professionally built 440 4bbl is topped by a 750CFM 4 barrel and Edelbrock Performer 440 intake and backed by high flow exhaust from headers to chrome tips. The unibody frame has been properly reinforced with HEMI spec torque box gussets, suspension beefed up with HEMI spec leaf springs. The 8.75 Sure-Grip remains a street friendly 3.23 final drive ratio. Power steering and heavy-duty power brakes make this B-body easy to live with day to day. Born formal black with a black vinyl top, this Charger is now finished in R/T trim, a Ruby Red Metallic, and black Bumble Bee butt stripe. Chrome Road Wheels wrapped in P225/70/R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A's up front, P275/60/R15's out back. The stance is perfect.
Overall fit and finish is excellent. Panel gaps are even, body lines crisp and clean. The Ruby Red paint shines like the gem it is named for. The grill, brightwork, and chrome are ""like new"". Badging, glass, and light lenses are in excellent condition.
Slide into the driver's seat and you will find yourself transported back to the Summer of '68. The aircraft cockpit inspired dash is stocked with a full complement of gauges and switchgear, including the 150MPH Speed and Tachometer. Everything works, thanks to an interior refresh within the last five years, including all new wiring harnesses, heat and sound insulation, and carpeting. Black vinyl split ""buddy"" buckets, complete with a center section that adjusts independent of the passenger and driver's seat. The buddy seat transforms into center armrest, ergonomic, versatile, and the ideal place to rest your elbow as you row through the gears. This configuration is our favorite layout for the Charger, and you just don't see it every day.
Pop the hood and you'll discover the right blend of modern and vintage. The big 440 was professionally rebuilt, machined, powder coated and assembled using state-of-the-art ARP studs and fasteners. Timing and spark are made courtesy of a Mopar Performance electronic ignition and distributor and MSD Street Fire ignition wire set. Edelbrock handles fuel delivery via 750CFM 4bbl carb and Performer 440 intake. The look is completed with a set of aluminum Mopar Performance finned valve covers and air cleaner assembly. High volume headers feed a Flowmaster exhaust. The result is a clean engine bay with a clean-cut diamond at its center, but one that cuts through asphalt, rather than just looks pretty.
