1940 Ford Deluxe 2 Door Sedan
An unqualified masterpiece by any standard, the 1940 Ford passenger car lineup firmly ranks among the most attractive and distinctive automobile designs, regardless of era. Penned by former yacht designer Eugene T. "Bob" Gregorie, the 1940 Ford line marks one of the final products of his design collaborations with company president Edsel Ford. In addition to their wonderfully streamlined styling, the 1940 Ford model lines brought improved functionality to match their good looks. Among those enhancements were new sealed beam headlamps, vent windows, and enhanced passenger space with a new steering column-mounted gear lever.
For your consideration, a 1940 Ford Deluxe blue beauty which has been rodded but on a very tasteful level. The consignor says that the car could be driven out of our showroom and right across the country with no issues. It has a fresh 350ci small block Chevrolet mill, Vintage Air, a sweet modern interior, and an excellent all steel exterior. California here I come! I'm turning the key now...
Exterior
A few mods for this Lapis Blue rod, but all the good stuff was retained. Not the least of which was the teardrop headlights now have a blue lens in front. Also the grille is retained and this one is the definition of art deco. It has an outward V shape and it has a wonderful C curve as it drops to the road. Shiny vertical ribs and a top v shape has curves going on all over it! Below the bumper has been shaved and a bulbous shaved hood cozies up to it on top and this hood is just seamless as it greets the rounded fenders. These curvaceous beauties frame shiny 15-inch Billet Specialties polished wheels wrapped in wide whitewall tires that are staggered at 205/60R15 in front and 235/60R15 on back. Steel doors have been shaved and poppers are now the entry method. Gaps are all straight and well minded. Mirrors are painted blue and a trim spear runs the gamut making it the sole chrome trimming on this rod. Running boards are just snazzy blue and glass is all tinted. In keeping with Gregoire's design a split rear oval glass begins the long curved descent to a bumper-less rear. Sargent shoulder stripe like rear tail lights are on the corresponding rounded fenders and in the center of the trunk lid is a pinstriped flourish. Dual exhaust roars out front the bottom. Everywhere you look the lines are so curved it's like electric blue sex!
Interior
Keeping in step with the exterior, we see molded door panels with some curves and then covered in blue canvas like tweed. Billet actuators and a billet arrest are there in the blue tweed. Seats move to gray canvas tweed and these are front late model buckets and a rear bench. Seat Belts are on these chairs. In the center is a stereo unit mounted for easy reach for driver or passenger and a billet style shift lever. In front, more full metal jacket for the rounded dash, painted blue and with a satin aluminum panel housing VDO gauges. In the center a painted flourish in pinstripe form is admonishing the peel above a lineup of more billet knobs and pulls, and just below the Vintage Air box. To that box's right is an under dash mounted tachometer. A tilt wheel column and billet rally steering wheel is fronting this dash. Blue carpeting is in the floors and above is a door panel acting blue canvas tweed all nice and tight.
Drivetrain
Under that rounded hood is a tightly fitted 350ci v8. It has plenty of bing attached to it and shines in the blue bay like a crazy diamond. It has an Edelbrock Performer intake and a Holley 750cfm 4-barrel carburetor. On back is a TH350 3-speed automatic trans, and way back a 10 bolt 3.73 rear axle spins the tires. Headers and a Flowmaster muffler exhaust is on for the exhale and melodious exhaust exit sound. A Walker radiator is installed to keep things as cool as this car's looks.
Undercarriage
Just a great job under here and as nice and painted just like the top side. Blue floor pans and fender inners as well as the X frame are all blue and they are clean as a whistle. Silver tinted suspension which includes Heidts Mustang II style front and leaf spring rear suspension. Power discs are in the front and power drums for the back. Simple but effective under here!
Drive-Ability
I hopped in and perched myself on the tweed and it was super comfy! The car fired right up and ran like the wind. Great acceleration, good handling, and braking is solid and bias free. The AC blew ICE cold, and the radio worked great. As are all functions at the time of my test drive which sadly did not take me to Cali!
