Description:

1975 Buick Electra 225 Limited 225 2 Door Hardtop

For consignment, a 1975 Buick Electra 225 Limited 2 door hardtop with an astounding title verified 17,676 actual miles. If you're already in the Buick Club of America, this is going to get your attention. If you're not in the club, here's an outstanding reason to join. This is one for the ages and deserves to be seen and appreciated as a shining example of a time gone by, and for some of us, vivid memories of American land yachts cruising our roads as daily drivers is still ingrained in our once young minds.

Exterior
Let's start with the elegant face which like everything else on this car is exaggerated in size. The grille frame is an extended chrome piece that covers the painted nose piece and in Rolls Royce style, wears a Flying Goddess ornament. The eggcrate grille spans the width of the car flowing under the dual headlights and above the massive chrome bumper. In profile, this Silver Mist painted giant gives off Cadillac vibes with a long hood, a large Landau vinyl top that sweeps back to meet the lengthy decklid. Faux fender vents, mere vestiges of the infamous portholes of the 50's, adorn this and every Buick from the era, in line with trim piece that runs the full distance of the car. Fender skirts streamline the rear section of the car and have polished gravel guards leading to edge trim, seemingly a continuation of the polished rocker panel. There's enormous real estate beyond the rear axle with an overhang of more than three feet, capped by rising sides of the chrome bumper that surround the rear fascia like NFL goal posts and house the reverse lights. The egg crate design makes a return on the long horizontal tail lights and its presence is extraordinary. It's beautifully preserved and we could not find any glaring exterior flaws.

Interior
Buick designers burned the midnight oil to try and figure out how to get every popular and luxurious material on the inside beginning on the door panel which has button backed burgundy velour inserts over a scroll carved faux wood inlay, over a padded vinyl armrest, over a carpeted lower panel with lights and chrome and polished trim. Diamond tufted red velour seats are constructed of a ribbed material Buick called Geneva cloth, and a large armrest sits between the split bench seat, big enough for both occupants and maybe even a Saint Bernard. But fear not, doggie, there's tons of space in the back which is limo-like and covered in the same materials and it's all in incredible condition. Faux wood inlay classes up the steering wheel for the times, but alas, it's still red plastic and vinyl when all is said and done. The simple dashboard houses a horizontal speedometer and a panel of idiot lights along with knobs and controls on the faux woodgrain mid-panel of the dashboard which spans the entire dash, interrupted only by the AM/FM radio in the center. The plush red carpet is very nice with just a few blemishes by the gas pedal. Up above, a large, (naturally), sunroof is surrounded by a clean headliner and the entire interior is essentially showroom fresh. The vast trunk is spotless too, covered in a trunk liner and housing a spare that is butterfly bolted in.

Drivetrain
Time has discolored the valve covers and intake on the engine, but otherwise the bay looks as clean and stock as it did in 1975. It's a 455ci V8, fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor and rated at 205 horses. A TH400 3-speed automatic transmission is rowed by the column shifter, sending power to the 10 bolt rear axle with 2.73 gears. Power brakes are a must and are front discs and rear drums.

Undercarriage
Clean underneath with a bit of time rendered patina in the form of surface rust on the usual components. The underside may have been coated at some point as its uniformly flat black and clean. The single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler before exiting under the car and we note a hold in the short tailpipe. There's also just a bit of wetness on the rear differential. Suspension consists of coil springs in front and a 4 link with coil springs in back.

Drive-Ability
"Nothing rides like a...." You can fill in the blank with your favorite, be it a Lincoln or Cadillac. But this smooth running land yacht provides a floaty, quiet ride and the newer 75 series tires with an early 2022 date code, help buffer every imperfection on our test loop. One must mind the corners of this car as the front turns in about 3 hours before the rest of the car follows, so wide turns and maybe a Class B CDL license would help. As a well preserved example, every functional item on this low mileage car works. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

This is a collection grade survivor and in fact, would be right at home in an American transportation museum or on a concours field. Some call the '75 Limited the embodiment of American luxury and the majestic flagship of the Buick line. It's all those things and more and this is one of the finest mid-century Buicks we've had the honor to represent in our Hallowed Halls.
