1965 GTO is one of the most sought-after muscle cars in hostory. The Name, GTO is a moniker an Italian abbreviation for Gran Turismo Omologato (Grand Tourer Homologated). In early 1963, General Motors management banned divisions from involvement in auto racing. With GM's ban on factory-sponsored racing, Pontiac's managers began to emphasize street performance. John DeLorean, Bill Collins, and Russ Gee were responsible for the GTO's creation. By promoting the big-engine option (GTO) as a special high-performance model.
The '65 GTO with 389ci with Tri-Power was the fastest muscle car available in 1965. The 389 was the catalyst for the muscle car wars through the 1960s.
