1968 Mercedes Benz 280 SL Convertible This 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Convertible, part of the rare W113 series, has been lovingly owned by my parents for 56 years and is now being offered for sale to provide college money for my nephews. The car has been garage-kept with climate control throughout its life, preserving its exceptional condition. As a former worker on American Hot Rod (2007), I had the privilege of overseeing a full paint job and tune-up with two other crew members, a project that was featured on the show. The car retains its painstakingly detailed, all-original parts, including the iconic Koolmeister air conditioning system that my mother enjoyed since receiving the car as a wedding gift from my father. Everything on this car works perfectly, including the Becker original radio. According to my mother, the top had never been replaced since her wedding, but I have since replaced the soft top with high-quality German material woven to original specifications. The seat covers are also brand new. The engine runs smoothly and retains a beautiful patina, with all original components, while the rear axle has been upgraded with a period-correct W108 3.7 gear ratio and all-new bushings. My mother always wondered why her car revved high, but now it purrs down the freeway at 80 mph, just like it should! This car has been meticulously cared for and is ready for its next chapter.
