The Wolseley 1500 was introduced at the London Motor Show in April 1957. Mark II production began in May 1960 and featured a lower front suspension compared with the Mark I. The Mark II also featured updated chrome steel beltline trim as well as hidden hood and trunk hinges. The saloon bodywork was built by Fisher & Ludlow of Birmingham, England.
This 1961 Wolseley 1500 Mark II saloon is a right-hand-drive example that was imported to the US prior to 2010. Cream-colored painted wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are shod with Kumho Solus HP4 Plus tires. A spare wheel and tire are stowed beneath the trunk floor. Braking is provided by hydraulic drums at all four corners. Highlights include chrome bumpers and brightwork, a hood ornament, fender-mounted mirrors, and a tow ball.
The low-back front seats and a rear bench seat are adorned in burgundy upholstery that are color-coordinated with the dash pad, door panels, and carpeting. The wood dash panel includes dual gloveboxes, an under-dash storage shelf, a cigar lighter, a heater, and a Radiomobile radio. The banjo-style steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a combination "oil/temp/fuel" gauge and a 100-mph speedometer. The odometer shows 10500 miles, but total mileage is unknown.
The 1,489cc BMC B-series inline-four features an SU carburetor and was factory rated at 43 horsepower. A new fan belt was installed recently, and a valve adjustment was also performed. Compression test results are shown in the photos. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission that functions normally.
These Wolseley 1500 MkII's are rather eccentric little cars and are rare to find. Don't miss out on this opportunity to own one.
