1951 Mercury Eight Coupe Lead Sled Custom. This incredible custom started life in 1951 in Arizona and spent most of its time around the Sun Lakes area until being imported into Winnipeg Manitoba in 2009, already as a completed car. At the time, documents that come with the car show a new GM engine with stock cam along with a new 700R four speed auto were recently installed into the car along with all new ball joints, new rear end and axles. Receipts are also included for custom Dakota Digital Dashboard and chromed engine show parts including the intake for 3, two-barrel carburetors. This really is one wickedly cool custom! The hood ornament and emblem have been replaced by incredible flames that trail down the front fenders onto the doors, and the hood now features 6 rows of perfect louvers. The bumper is original but has had the bumperettes removed and more teeth have been inserted into the grill in replacement of the bumperettes. The whole car is certainly lowered from the factory stance. Chrome stripes down each side of the car are certainly still factory correct. Side skirts have been added to the rear wheels to give it that low and long look and mercury script has been removed from the rear quarter panels. Out back, same story as the front. The rear trunk has been smoothened out removing badging and the rear bumperettes have been taken off. The trunk release is now hidden behind the gas filler door. Its nice to still see real door handles on the doors on this one. The rear window looks factory but its now Plexi-glass. Under the hood is just as pretty as the exterior with glossy paint and a very clean firewall. Lots of polished or billet stainless and chrome including hood hinges, alternator, valve covers and even steering column! Aftermarket A/C with vintage air controls and modern vents hang from the dashboard. The interior is a handsome combination of new maroon carpets that match the exterior along with nice tan leather/cloth upholstery on the bench seats and headliner. Both front and back benches are done with memory foam and are very comfortable. There are also seatbelts for a touch of safety. A hidden stereo folds out when you open the glovebox and theres a remote, along with amplifier in the trunk and powerful 6X9s mounted to the rear deck. Door sills and interior window frames are all chromed and are very showy! The dashboard is also and work of art with loads of vertically stripped chrome as well as a chrome tilt steering column. The original instrument cluster and radio have been replaced by a solid acrylic piece that hides the Dakkota Digital dashboard which displays in teal blue when on, but blacks out to a mirror like panel when turned off " very neat. The digital odometer reads just 3400 miles since the build was completed. The trunk is well finished with matching vinyl side boards and carpets from the interior with the battery easily accessible in the back passenger trunk along with the gas filler on the floor of the trunk. Shop manuals, a photo album with receipts and awards come with the car. In that album is also a certificate of title from the State of Arizona. Apart from a few small blemishes that will be fixed on the exterior (to be expected for a restoration more than 16 years ago) the car shows 10 out of 10 and is spectacular from every angle! It runs and drives just as good too!
