1976 Pontiac Trans Am

Description:

This 1976 Pontiac Trans Am is a beautifully restored Firebird, with wonderful options that is ready for some summer cruising. On March 8, 1969, Pontiac introduced the Trans Am as a high-performance option package for its pony car, the Firebird. While the '69 Trans Am debuted in the Muscle Car Era's hey-day, by the mid-1970s, the true American muscle car was basically a thing of the past in large part due to the federal government's implementation of pollution control regulations. Nonetheless, Pontiac continued to produce and consumers continued to purchase the performance-oriented Trans Am Firebird, now built in accordance with the new anti-smog rules. The 1973 model year served as another Trans Am milestone with the introduction of the iconic "Screaming Chicken" graphic, originating from a legendary Indian symbol that was modernized by stylist John Schinella. The next significant milestone for Pontiac occurred in 1976, with the GM marque celebrating its Golden 50th Anniversary. In celebration of its Golden Anniversary, Pontiac debuted the '76 Firebird line on September 25, 1975, comprised of 4 models, the base model, Esprit, Formula, and, of course, at the top of the Firebird hierarchy, the Trans Am. Compared to the previous edition, the 1976 Trans Am was modestly updated for 1976. At the nose, the '76 T/A sported a new sloping front end look included a twin-section grille with mesh pattern inserts, sitting below an imposing Shaker Hood. In the rear, the decklid was topped by rear deck spoiler that furthered the performance-oriented look for the new Trans Am. Both the front and rear were also equipped with new body colored urethane bumpers that tied the entire exterior look together. On the inside, the 1976 Trans Ams came with outfitted with surprisingly plush trim along with several sportier options such as a Formula steering, dual sport-style mirrors, and an aluminum swirl-finish instrument cluster complete with a Rally gauge setup. This particular Trans Am comes to us from a loving collector who oversaw this Trans Am's complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration. Under the "Screaming Chicken" Shaker Hood is a numbers matching 455 cubic inch V8 engine with performance upgrades fed by a single 4 barrel carburetor. The 455 V8 is backed by a 4 speed manual transmission that makes this Trans Am an absolute blast to drive! This '76 Firebird Trans Am is loaded with desirable options! You'll be sure to keep the rubber to pavement since power is sent from this Pontiac's big block through a Safe-T-Track (positraction) rear differential. This 1976 Trans Am is outfitted with power front disc brakes which provides plenty of stopping power, especially with all that extra power under the hood. With power steering, squeezing into a tight parking space at the local drive-in or car show is a total breeze and the overall driving experience is much improved. Riding on a set of Honeycomb wheels, paired with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, this 1976 Pontiac has a wonderful stance and superb ride cruising down the road. The exterior of this '70s muscle car has been refinished in a beautiful Carousel Red paint accented with the iconic "Screaming Chicken" hood decal, completing the exterior look of this gorgeous car. The interior of this 1976 Pontiac Trans Am is absolutely stunning! The front bucket seats, rear bench seat, and door panels have all been reupholstered in Black Vinyl with a nice stock look. The black carpeting, Formula steering wheel, black padded dash, and engine-turned aluminum instrument cluster are all in fantastic condition and appear to remain in their stock configuration. Instrumentation includes a 100 MPH speedometer, 8,000 RPM tachometer, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, volt gauge, fuel gauge. and clock. The dash is finished off with heater controls, windshield wiper controls, cigarette lighter and ashtray, glovebox, and AM/FM radio. Whether you're buying your first classic car or your adding to an existing nest of Pontiacs, this 1976 Pontiac Trans Am would make an excellent choice. Give Ellingson's a call today at 763-428-7337!
