2012 Ford Mustang GT500

Description:

6551 2012 Ford Mustang GT500

The Wall Street Journal's headline says it all, and since I don't have a subscription, the headline will have to do for its review of the 2012 Mustang GT500. "Obliterate Boredom, The Ford Mustang GT500 brings your drag racing dreams to snorting, snarling life." The writer went on to say in an interview that this is basically the battle axe version of the Mustang.

For consignment, a 2012 Ford Mustang GT500 with a title verified 25,751 actual miles in glorious stock configuration and dressed in desirable Kona Blue. The name on the back solidifies this cars' place amongst automotive royalty.

Exterior
The front fascia of the GT500 was unique to Mustangs in 2012 and wears a silver stripe on the chin spoiler, the bumper cover, and the nose before it heads over the hood, roof, and rear of the car. This is in sharp and sporty contrast to the Kona Blue paint, a dark blue that looks 100 fathoms deep. Diamond pattern grilles, both upper and lower, are gaping air ducts and the black vent on the hood is a gaping heat extractor to help keep the ponies cool. Quarter window and quarter panel scoops enhance the aggressive look and the color matched door handles and sport mirrors temper aggressiveness with some monochromatic styling. Tempering doesn't last long as the rear wing and dual exhaust fitted into a rear splitter proclaims the car's intent. Meanwhile, 5 spoke 19-inch wheels fill the openings with low profile Z-rated tires. Imperfections include some rock chips by a side duct and some road rash under a rocker stripe.

Interior
Driving a rocket ship requires seats that can hold on to you as you speed along. This car is up to that task interior wise with excellent condition black leather buckets in front and some dual buckets forming a bench integrated into the back. Within their tuck and roll inserts, more silver racing stripes emulate the exterior. The center console races up the middle of the front buckets and has the 6-speed white knobbed gearshift lever within its confines. Moving our wandering eyes upward, we see climate controls, and the Shaker stereo system with AM/FM/CD changer with Sync and navigation. The instruments also harken back to the early models and are in deep set round form, all backlit in violet for day and night viewing. Clean black carpeting floods the floors and above is a tight black felt headliner. Just a fine example of a comfortable yet safe, and sporty beautiful interior that grabs you visually and figuratively.

Drivetrain
The mild mannered original 550hp 5.4 liter DOHC V8 achieves those numbers with the help of EFI and a supercharger. On the back is a Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual transmission and making the rear tires spin is a Ford 8.8 inch 3.73 TracLoc rear axle. Power discs all around featuring Brembo 14-inch discs in front.

Undercarriage
As black and sparkling clean as the top, no problems under here. The factory dual exhaust system works its way to the rear and ends with original equipment mufflers and chrome tips. Independent front suspension and a 3 link with a panhard rear suspension is on. All rust free save for surface rust on the factory 2 piece driveshaft.

Drive-Ability
On our test loop, we are very limited to even trying to push a car like this, but he noted all is fine on the starting front, shifting was smooth, clutch was tight, and there was plenty of acceleration to go around even at 1/4 throttle. In fact, one would never just nail this throttle, or you would find yourself with the rear of the car passing you, which is not good! All functions were working as the factory intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Legendary name association, desirable color combo, big power, a like new interior, and a bench racing king, this would easily fit into a collection or serve as your first collectible car, one you could drive with not so reckless abandon. This is certainly no toy, but in the hands of someone with an appropriate level of skill and respect, this is an adventurous car that will make you giggle like a third grader.
