1992 Chevrolet Camaro RS Convertible

Description:

1992 Chevrolet Camaro RS Convertible

"Twenty five years ago the first Camaro rolled off a Chevrolet assembly line, and an American love affair began. Competitors have come and gone, but down on Main Street, Chevy Camaro is still USA-1. The Camaro RS for 1992 continues the tradition with enthusiasm. Consider the practical, easy to own Camaro. Yet it still offers all the appeal of a rear wheel drive coupe that has been carefully refined through the years." From the 1992 Chevy sales brochure.

For consignment, a 1992 Chevrolet Camaro RS convertible with a title verified 35,218 actual miles, garage kept and owned by our consignor for 22 years. Much like the first gen Camaro RS's, the Rally Sport package was primarily cosmetic and all Camaros in 1992 were considered 25th anniversary although some special edition Z28's were produced with specific colors to signify the anniversary.

Exterior
When we talk about the 90's, there are certain colors that are synonymous with the period and Dark Teal Metallic Blue might be at the top of that list. Black bits of coordinating contrast include the horizontal grille, the canvas convertible top, door handles, the trim around and throughout the taillights, and of course the tires on the RS 16-inch wheels. The sweeping shoulder line is straight, and in profile only the rear wing changes that geometry. RS badges in bright teal appear on the lower quarter panel and the rear bumper cover, while a scoop is sculpted into the rocker panel body piece in front of the rear wheels and another one in front of the front wheel, each providing a slightly aggressive presentation, hinting of a Z28 but overall, more understated. The top, paint, and body panels are in spectacular shape and the only imperfection we note are some scrapes under the chin of the front fascia, not seen from the topside of the car.

Interior
Embossed with diagonal patterns, the plastic and vinyl door panels make a slightly dramatic gateway to the interior, dressed in black. Gray tweed material covers the front sport bucket seats, stitched in horizontal patterns and boarded by darker gray material for contrast, and they're in excellent condition. The rear 2+2 seats are more upright and wear the same material and are equipped with three point seatbelts. The straightforward gauge cluster follows the simple steering wheel and has six gauges relaying eight pieces of information for the driver. A/C controls and an AM/FM/CD radio is in the center stack, all in monochromatic black plastic with exposed connector hardware for a slight raw racecar look. This spills onto the center console where screwheads protrude over the angular black base, and a simple shifter rises from the center hump. Low pile black carpet covers the floor with black carpeted mats on top that have taken the brunt of usage.

Drivetrain
In just about showroom condition, under the hood we find the 305ci V8, fuel injected and rated at 170 horsepower. A 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission, GM's go to unit, backs the engine and sends power to the 10 bolt rear axle. Power brakes are on board with discs in front and drums in the rear.

Undercarriage
Clean underneath with a uniform coating of surface rust on the rear axle, sway bar, and other suspension components. The single exhaust still shines and snakes its way to a single stock style muffler that expels two down turned tailpipes that do not show on the exterior. No leaks, grease build up, or even residual oil underneath, she's dry! Suspension consists of coil springs up front and a torque arm with coil springs out back.

Drive-Ability
Time warp to 1992 when the end of the third generation Camaros hit the road and the RS was an aggressive alternative to the boy racer looks and higher insurance rates of the Z28. The cabin is comfortable and 90's era ergonomic. The 305 delivers smooth power and fantastic handling, even if it wasn't the most powerful Camaro in the lineup. Shifts are smooth, visibility is good, and brakes are on point. And what's even better is that all functions worked as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

This low mileage Camaro offers top down fun in a stunning teal wrapper and time capsule like condition. A well preserved 25th anniversary year Camaro that could have been plucked off the sales brochure is now ready for a new caretaker and loving home. Maybe you had one in high school, or always wanted one in pristine condition. Well, your ship has just come in and it's a teal time machine.
