2007 Ford Mustang GT Coupe

Description:

2007 Mustang GT Coupe

With the exception of modern Mini Coopers, there may be no other car that lends itself to customization and personal touches than late model Ford Mustangs. Because the make has been around so long, an endless list of aftermarket companies provide both cosmetic and performance modifications that are essentially "plug and play" or "snap on". More than 53,500 GT's were built in 2007 and there were, (are), many ways to make your car stand out, and pull away from the crowd.

For consignment, a 2007 Ford Mustang GT Coupe with a title verified 27,862 actual miles, in Grabber Orange, and containing a long list of modifications to the engine, chassis, and appearance. The turbocharged car dyno'd at 502.91 horsepower. Grab a chair, we're going to squeeze this orange to see what's inside and this could take a while.

Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.*

Exterior
We start with Grabber Orange which alone is attention grabbing. Then add black painted stripes that run from the fog light delete bumper, over the top, over the rear wing, and down the rear fascia and valance. An Eleanor hood from Kaanan gives a subtle but aggressive bump and is held in place with pins. Side quarter window covers are Shelby-esque scoops and pair with the body scoops to present a racy exterior. But there's more! Smoked tail lights, black emblems, an MMD chin spoiler and an aluminum grille add to this car's statement of individuality. It doesn't hurt that 18-inch black Bullitt wheels are on board to drive the point home, this ain't your average GT. Imperfections are few with a couple of scrapes under the chin spoiler and one scuff in the paint. Now let's get under the peel.

Interior
Fairly standard fare inside where Ford's design is clean, efficient, and appropriately sporty when it needs to be. The factory bucket seats are charcoal leather, high backed and fully adjustable. The rear seats are 2+2 configuration and the leather is taut. Everything else looks factory original here and is spotless. The center stack houses a standard and somewhat plain AM/FM/CD radio and climate control panel. A beefy MGW aftermarket shifter is in the center console surrounded by an aluminum frame in molded plastic that also houses an ergonomic parking brake lever. Cupholders and an armrest/storage bin complete the console. The low pile black carpet is very nice, and the headliner looks factory fresh. The trunk is cleanly lined with gray panels.

Drivetrain
Here's where things get a bit juicy. There's not a lot in the clean engine bay that would broadcast modifications, for the most part the fuel injected 4.6 liter 3 valve V8 looks fairly standard. Well, underneath the faade, our consignor lists the following components and work: the short block was replaced and fitted forged Cobra crank, Manley rods and pistons. The block was also honed, decked and balanced. A SFI balancer keeps things rotating smoothly and a Meziere electric water pump keeps things cool. A custom tune was then uploaded by Powerhouse. There's also a Powerhouse turbo kit with a 67mm Precision turbocharger with intercooler and blanket, a Kenne Bell Boost-A-Pump, and 39 pound fuel injectors. All that would need to be backed by a stout transmission, right? It's a Tremec TR3650 with a Ford Racing billet flywheel and CenterForce Dual Friction clutch and the 5-speed manual sends power via a Powerhouse aluminum driveshaft to a Ford 8.8" rear with 3.73 gears and TracLoc. Power disc brakes, of course, are on all four wheels.

Undercarriage
Modifications spread to the underside as well where CHE Performance provided some of their chassis and suspension work. First, a driveshaft loop is present to keep that aluminum shaft from getting loose. There's also a 4-point cradle brace, lower rear control arms and relocation brackets, upper rear arms, and CHE engine torque limiters. MacPherson struts are up front and Eibach springs and an adjustable panhard bar are in back. This is all mostly hidden from view of course, lurking stealthily under the car. But the exhaust that begins at headers, meets some Flowmaster FX mufflers in back and exit through large black exhaust tips, and at the right angle, these hint at a modified car, and likely sound like one. There are no catalytic converters on the car. Did we mention it's all dry and spotless underneath?

Drive-ability
We've been in 100 Mustang GT's and the cockpit of this one is not much different. But turn the key and its bellow is quite a bit richer than your standard GT. Around the test loop and out of boost, it behaves like a very healthy 4.6 with great throttle response and obvious, potential power underfoot. The handling is stupendous, of course, and turns are taken with absolute flatness. We're happy to report that all functions work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Under the orange peel, we find solid muscle. The turbocharger adds more air than a frothy Orange Julius and the chassis and suspension plant this car like a road racing monster. It's well sorted, well tuned, and just a bit of a sleeper with subtle exterior cues. You couldn't build one for the price, and this is a turnkey Mustang that will have Shelby Mustangs wondering how you keep up. Race on over to Classic Auto Mall, or the phone, and throw your hat in the ring for his special car.
