Killer pro-touring Cuda with all the upgrades. 426 cubic inch Gen III EFI Hemi, 6-speed manual, Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes, coil-over suspension and more. Beautiful interior. Brutally fast. The Cuda that youve always wished you could build!
The second-generation Plymouth Barracuda, or Cuda, was the perfect blend of performance, good looks, and price. Chrysler sat back and watched the Camaro and Mustang evolve, then delivered what just might be the best-looking pony car of them all. Today, almost any Cuda is highly prized, and they make a fantastic foundation for building something spectacular, something like this 1970 Plymouth Cuda hardtop. With a comprehensive makeover, it delivers modern sledgehammer performance while keeping the classic Cuda look. Of course, a few choice modifications make this one stand out in a crowded field, including that slick two-tone color combination. Starting with Plum Crazy Purple as a base, a satin black wrap was added on top, separated by an orange pinstripe, giving this Cuda a modern look that still recalls the performance hood treatments of the 60s. And speaking of hoods, this one has a lightweight custom fiberglass piece with a big scoop and trick locking pins to hold it in place. Theres also a molded-in ducktail spoiler out back, a subtle chin spoiler, and custom side exhaust built into the rockers that sounds heroic. Custom LED lighting gives it a unique look at night, and details like the emblems, rain gutters, and side marker lights have been shaved. From any angle, this is an awesome-looking car.
The interior is a full custom job that features custom bucket seats from a late-model with power adjustments in every direction. The caramel-colored leather is beautiful against the Plum Crazy paint and gives this Cuda a sophisticated look that many of its siblings lack. Settle in and youll find a tilt steering column with a custom steering wheel, a giant pistol-grip shifter for the 6-speed manual, and a factory instrument panel full of modern Dakota Digital instruments that monitor all the vitals. The car also features keyless pushbutton start: hit the unlock button on the remote fob, clutch in, then press the illuminated button the dash and the Holley Terminator X fuel injection system fires the 426 cubic inch HEMI without a lot of fuss. If you get bored with the outrageous performance, theres also a Kenwood touch-screen entertainment system in the custom center console, along with controls for the power windows. Vintage Air supplied the HVAC system, which uses OEM-style controls to help them blend in, and theres a beautifully stitched dash cover that matches the upholstery. Other trick details include custom-molded CUDA print on the back seats, a matching headliner, and a pair of cupholders between the front seats. The trunk is neatly finished with traditional carpets and a custom enclosure for the two JBL subwoofers, and please check out the custom drilled aluminum trunk hinges-too cool!
Power comes from a custom-built GEN III HEMI V8 thats been bored and stroked to a familiar 426 cubic inches. We dont have dyno sheets, but this is a seriously strong powerplant that flings the relatively lightweight Cuda around with ease. Featuring Holley Sniper Terminator X fuel injection, its road manners are surprisingly user-friendly and its as content to sit in traffic as it is to hammer through your favorite twisting road. Theres a massive aluminum radiator up front with a pair of electric fans to keep things cool, and youll note that the entire engine bay was smoothed and finished to the same standards as the rest of the car. Long-tube headers feed a custom stainless dual exhaust system with X-pipe and side exits-its loud, but the soundtrack is spectacular! A 6-speed manual transmission feeds power to a familiar Chrysler 8.75-inch rear end, which has been stuffed with 3.54 gears and heavily reinforced, and which now hangs on a custom 4-link suspension with adjustable coil-over shocks. The front suspension involves a new K-member with tubular A-arms, coil-over shocks, rack-and-pinion steering, plus a fat sway bar, giving this Cuda the moves of a much younger machine. Other goodies include drilled and vented Wilwood disc brakes at all four corners, a custom stainless fuel cell in back, and a heavy-duty driveshaft. American Racing supplied the wheels, which show off the big brakes and are fitted with staggered 265/30/19 front and 345/25/20 rear performance radials.
Documentation includes most of the cars original Chrysler Corporation Broadcast Sheet, manuals for the various components that went into the build, and a bunch of purchase receipts.
Nasty fast with well-chosen components, this pro-touring Cuda is available for a fraction of the build cost. It isnt a perfect car (it was built to be driven), but it has the right parts to be a show-stopper anywhere it goes. The ideal mix of one of the best-looking designs of the 70s and modern tech, it delivers the performance promised by its look. Call today!
