The 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Hardtop sits at the heart of Chevrolet's first Tri-Five model year, when the Bel Air was the top trim in the lineup and the hardtop Sport Coupe helped define the cleaner, lower, more modern look of the all-new 1955 redesign. That model year also introduced Chevrolet's new small-block V8 as a factory option, which is a big part of why these cars still carry so much appeal with collectors and enthusiasts.
This example takes that familiar Bel Air shape in a more hot-rodded direction, finished in classic two-tone red and white with the signature white top and rear accent that fits the body lines well. Power comes from a 454 V8 paired with a TH400 3-speed automatic, with long-tube headers feeding a true dual exhaust system with Cherry Bomb glasspack mufflers for the kind of sound you expect from a big-block Tri-Five. It also features front disc brakes, rear drums, and 3.55 gearing, giving it a solid mix of vintage character and straightforward drivability. Inside, the car keeps its traditional front and rear bench-seat layout and adds a large AutoMeter Sport-Comp Monster Tach along with a classic-style gauge cluster that monitors water temperature, oil pressure, voltage, RPM, and speed. An AM/FM radio rounds things out with a useful upgrade that still fits the car's overall feel.
