1984 Yamaha FJ1100
VIN: JYA47M000EA000260
From the mid-80's “end of the naked bike” era collection, the 1984 FJ1100 was Yamaha's final expression of the Universal Japanese Motorcycle” inline four cylinder era pioneered by Honda's iconic CB750K in 1969, before engines disappeared beneath yards of plastic fairing. Designed with an emphasis on high speed stability as well as superbike performance, the FJ1100 is credited with inventing what is now called the industry's “Sport Touring” class; and 1984 marks the debut of the company's FJ series machines that have continued in production to the present day.
With 125 hp on tap, a 146 mph top speed, and quarter mile capabilities in the mid-10's, the FJ1100 was no slouch at either the drag strip or on the autobahn. In addition, it's newly developed all steel “lateral frame” perimeter design made for less weight and superior stability at high speeds which made riding at triple digits seem effortless. Excellent ergonomics and a lower center of gravity than other superbikes of the era made it feel even lighter than it was, which in turn made it more comfortable riding long distances at high speeds as well as more nimble at parking lot maneuvers.
The first year 1984 example you see here was purchased by the current owner in 2009, with just under 43,000 miles showing on the odometer. All operating systems are in good condition, and regular maintenance since purchase includes a new clutch actuator, rebuilt carbs, and a Vance & Hines custom exhaust system. The bike has been carefully maintained and sparingly ridden since purchase, and the odometer currently reads 44,394 miles..
