1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 " Frame-Off Restored Chevrolet V8 Conversion
This 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40 is a beautifully restored and professionally upgraded example of one of the world's most iconic 4x4 vehicles. Featuring a complete frame-off restoration and modern Chevrolet V8 power, this FJ-40 combines legendary Toyota durability with increased performance, comfort, and reliability. This extensive three-year build was professionally completed in 2017 by M & M Custom Autos and 4WD of Sicklersville, NJ. Every detail of this Land Cruiser was carefully addressed, using new parts throughout the restoration. Since completion, it has traveled approximately 1,000 miles.
The original steel body, hood, and fenders were completely stripped and sandblasted before receiving a premium two-stage Cadillac Silver urethane finish. Every exterior trim piece was replaced, giving this FJ-40 a fresh, like-new appearance while preserving the classic Toyota design. The underside and interior floors were coated with durable Rhino liner material for additional protection against rust and wear.
Inside, the restored interior features new factory-style seats, 4-point shoulder harnesses, and a fully refreshed cabin. The roll cage was professionally powder coated before installation and includes safety side bars with locking door latches for added protection. Rear jump seats provide additional passenger capacity while maintaining the classic Land Cruiser layout.
The electrical system was fully upgraded with new wiring harnesses throughout, supporting the Sony stereo/CD/USB system, four speakers, auxiliary front and rear lighting, and all vehicle accessories. Factory gauges remain functional, complemented by aftermarket AutoMeter oil pressure, voltmeter, and water temperature gauges.
Under the hood is a rebuilt stock 1978 Chevrolet 350ci V8 producing approximately 250 horsepower. The engine is equipped with a Holley 670 CFM Truck Avenger carburetor designed for dependable performance and improved capability on inclines. Power is transferred through a rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission, rebuilt clutch pack, and transfer case. Cooling is handled by a custom aluminum radiator with thermostatically controlled electric fan, while block hugger shorty headers feed into a dual 2-inch exhaust system for improved airflow and a great V8 sound. Power brakes, chrome wheels, and a bikini top complete the classic custom 4x4 package.
