1926 Ford Model T

Description:

Pretty Model T tudor sedan. Older restoration in good condition. Beautiful interior, good paint and bodywork. Electric start, upgraded ignition and alternator, easy to drive. An affordable Model T thats a great entry-level collectable!

The green on this Model T is particularly handsome, and stands out in a crowd of ho-hum black cars. The formal tudor sedan bodywork gives the humble Model T some presence, and the restoration, while probably 25 years old at this point, is holding up well. Yes, there are a few signs of use and age, but nothing major that needs attention, and youll be proud to roll into car shows with this good-looking T. The doors close easily, the hood latches down without a fight, and the many interesting details like the step plates, side mirror, leather-covered visor, and strap for the hand crank are all reminders of a bygone era. By 1926, the lighting was all electric, so no messing around with kerosene or carbide generators, and the brightwork was restored using chrome instead of nickel for low maintenance. The rear-mounted spare has a Ford script cover, making this a nicely finished Model T with an attractive, finished look.

The beautiful interior with its dapper pinstriped fabric is the highlight of the car. Upscale but certainly appropriate to the late-20s, it feels far more expensive inside than the sticker price might suggest. The controls will be familiar to anyone who has driven a Model T in the past, and if youre a newcomer, dont worry, its actually quite easy to get the hang of it. Simplicity was the point, right? The big steering wheel has a single crack, but thats really the biggest demerit in an otherwise very nicely finished interior. Nicely fitted carpets help with the well-tailored feel, and theres a taut gray headliner overhead with simple painted garnish moldings around the windows. The back seat is spacious enough for two real-sized adults, and with the tilt-forward front bucket seats, getting in is easier than youd expect. Roll-up windows provide great weather protection, making this Model T a great all-weather touring car.

Mechanically, theres not much to go wrong on the Model T. The engine is the same rugged, reliable 177 cubic inch inline-four that powered them all, and by 1926, Ford had all the bugs worked out. Set the spark and throttle levers properly, press the starter button with your foot, and this one springs to life easily and quickly without much fuss. It idles with that characteristic Model T soundtrack and it makes enough power and torque to make it feel reasonably comfortable around town. Cosmetically, the engine bay is tidy, with basic green engine enamel, correct cloth-wrapped spark plug wires, and a standard updraft carburetor. It also has a water pump, something the earlier Ts were missing but probably needed and a welcome upgrade for todays world. Youll also note a cleverly-integrated 6-volt alternator in place of the original generator, and the ignition system uses an E-Timer electronic upgrade to simplify operation. It starts so easily and runs so well that it would make an ideal partner for early car tours and once you master the operation of the quirky controls, youll find that this one really does drive well, cruising comfortably at about 30-35 MPH. Handsome painted wire wheels are correct for the era and wear older blackwall tires, which give the Model T an all-business look that we find very appealing.

Model Ts have long been a staple of the old car community and they continue to have enthusiastic proponents of all ages. This tudor sedan is handsomely restored and ready to enjoy, yet still very reasonably priced. We suspect youll have a hard time finding more quality per dollar than this little Ford. Call today!
