1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriolet

Description:

Chassis No.
915811

First introduced in 1938 and remaining in production through 1952, the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 represented the final evolution of the legendary 6C lineage and the last hand-built grand touring automobile of Alfa Romeo's pre-war tradition. Built in limited numbers, the 6C 2500 was offered in Turismo, Sport, and the highly coveted flagship Super Sport specifications, with elegant coachwork supplied by Italy's finest carrozzerie, including Touring, Pinin Farina, and Ghia. Buyers could choose from graceful berlinettas, cabriolets, coupes, and formal sedans, each individually crafted to a high standard. The short-wheelbase Super Sport chassis was among the rarest and most desirable variants, prized for its refined performance and exclusivity. Alfa Romeo's reputation had been forged through motorsport long before the 6C 2500 arrived, with earlier 6C models earning repeated victories in the Mille Miglia during the late 1920s and 1930s, helping establish the marque as one of Italy's premier sporting manufacturers. Carrying that celebrated heritage into the post-war era, the 1949 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriolet beautifully blended handcrafted luxury, advanced engineering, and racing pedigree. A mere 383 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sports were produced during its lengthy production run between 1938 and 1952. Even rarer is a Cabriolet, and this example, that retains its numbers-matching engine and chassis, has been beautifully restored, and represents the very best of the model. Noted in Angelo Tito Anselmis book, *Alfa Romeo 6C 2500*, chassis 915811 was delivered new on December 30, 1949, to I.T.A.C. SpA of Rome, Italy. It is believed this Alfa was then retained by its original owner into the 2000s, receiving a light cosmetic restoration of the paint, top, and interior in the 1990s. In 2007, this rare Alfa was acquired by its second owner, an Illinois-based collector. Under his ownership, he proudly campaigned this Alfa at various shows which included Meadow Brook, The Glenmoor Gathering, The Masterpiece Concours, Auto Historica V in Chicago, and most notably winning the coveted Pat Braden award at the National Alfa Meet. In 2016, this Alfa found its third owner who would commission Salzano Studio of Miami, Florida to perform a comprehensive body-off-the-frame restoration. A stunning outcome, the elegant, and sporting Pinin Farina body was draped in its present Alfa Romeo signature red over its tasteful chocolate brown leather upholstery. The six-cylinder engine and four-speed synchromesh manual gearbox received the same comprehensive treatment. Upon completion in 2017, this example was invited and shown in Monterey, California at the Concorso Italiano, where it was awarded Best Alfa Romeo among impressive and stiff competition. In 2019, this example was acquired by a new owner, where it received additional cosmetic and mechanical sorting that totaled over $15,000. The Weber 45 DC-9 carburetors were rebuilt by Pierce Manifolds, while various other cosmetic items were tended to. Professionally maintained and cared for since, this stunning Italian-bred Cabriolet is eligible for an array of future events and tours, which includes the historic Mille Miglia. Combining rarity, award-winning presentation, and eligibility for the world's most prestigious events, this numbers-matching Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriolet offers its next caretaker an extraordinary opportunity to experience one of Italy's finest handcrafted grand touring automobiles. * Highly desirable short wheelbase, numbers-matching example * Extensive award-winning restoration * Best Alfa Romeo Award at the 2017 Concorso Italiano * Pat Braden Award winner at the National Alfa Meet * 1 of just 383 flagship 6C 2500 Super Sport chassis built * Eligible for an array of historic events and tours, including the Mille Miglia From the Kruse Auctions
