The Plymouth GTX was Chrysler's answer to buyers who wanted the brute force of a muscle car without sacrificing comfort or refinement. Based on the midsize Belvedere platform, the GTX was marketed as the "gentleman's muscle car," combining upscale trim, bucket seats, brightwork, and premium appointments with some of the most potent engines available from Detroit. Its aggressive styling featured a blacked-out grille, simulated hood scoops, distinctive GTX badging, and a race-inspired flip-open fuel cap, giving the new model an unmistakable presence on the street.
Unlike many competitors that offered a range of small- and big-block engines, the GTX came standard with Chrysler's formidable 440-cubic-inch Super Commando V-8, factory rated at 375 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. Buyers seeking the ultimate in performance could opt for the legendary 426-cubic-inch Street Hemi V-8, conservatively rated at 425 horsepower, making the GTX one of the quickest American production cars of its era. A heavy-duty TorqueFlite automatic transmission came standard, while the rugged A833 four-speed manual was available, allowing enthusiasts to tailor the car to their driving style. Heavy-duty suspension and braking components completed the performance package.

Under previous ownership, the body was painted in its current and eye-catching shade, while the original and well-preserved black vinyl interior was untouched and remains in remarkable shape. Accompanying the car are documents verifying the numbers-matching drivetrain.
