The Jaguar E-Type, known in North America as the XKE, was introduced in 1961 as a redefined sports car that combined breathtaking styling, advanced engineering, and exhilarating performance at a price that undercut many of its European rivals. Developed under the direction of Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons and engineer Malcolm Sayer, whose background in aircraft aerodynamics heavily influenced its shape, the E-Type evolved directly from the marque's Le Mans-winning D-Type racers. 25 years under the care of a noted collection comprised of Pebble Beach Concours award winners, this 1967 Jaguar XKE wears an older restoration that has been consistently and attentively maintained throughout its tenure, remaining both highly attractive and eminently usable. A highly desirable late Series 1 with its covered headlights, it is finished in its original shade of Opalescent Maroon over a black trimmed interior, per its accompanying British Motor Heritage Trust Certificate. The certificate and chassis tag will also show it retains its numbers-matching 4.2-litre inline-six engine. A coveted engine among these Jaguars, the 4.2 is the preferred choice of those who enjoy taking their examples on tours and Sunday jaunts, much like the long-term owner did. More recently, the engine was rebuilt by marque specialist JK Restorations.
The Opalescent Maroon paintwork is very attractive and in fine overall condition, accented with restored brightwork and chrome wire wheels wrapped in Michelin radials for an authentic stance. The restoration has mellowed nicely with time and enjoyment, yet the car is still quite presentable for casual shows and club gatherings, while also looking as striking as ever on the road. This would be an excellent pick for classic rallies and high-speed touring events.
