Finished in black with period-inspired Renegade graphics and complemented by a Nutmeg-colored interior, this CJ combines unmistakable early-'80s styling with a substantial list of drivability, suspension and mechanical upgrades. The exterior presentation immediately captures the look enthusiasts associate with a proper Renegade-era CJ. The gloss black body is accented by orange, bronze and yellow graphics running along the hood and body sides, while the contrasting orange-toned removable hardtop ties the package together. Polished rocker moldings, exposed hinges, traditional hood latches and upright CJ proportions preserve the rugged, purpose-built character that helped make these Jeeps icons. A set of white 15-inch steel wheels gives the Jeep an appropriately vintage appearance and is wrapped in aggressive 33x12.50R15 Mastercraft Courser MXT tires. A matching full-size spare is carried at the rear. The lifted stance is backed by Rough Country suspension components, including shocks and a steering stabilizer. Previous upgrades also include a shackle-reverse setup, steering-box brace and heavy-duty steering-box mount. Under the hood is a replacement 258 cubic-inch AMC inline-six, but this is far from a completely stock powerplant. The engine has been upgraded with Howell electronic fuel injection, providing a significant improvement in starting, fuel delivery and everyday drivability compared with the original carbureted arrangement. Additional performance equipment includes an Offenhauser intake manifold, Clifford Performance valve cover and Performance Distributors DUI ignition system. An aluminum radiator has also been installed to improve cooling capacity, while a dual-exhaust system gives the inline-six a more assertive tone. The supplied history indicates prior service included replacement of the starter solenoid, thermostat housing, cooling fan, lower coolant hose, oil-pan gasket, rear main seal and valve-cover gasket. Power is delivered through a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case, allowing this CJ to retain genuine four-wheel-drive capability. A Tom Wood's front driveshaft is another worthwhile upgrade, particularly on a Jeep with increased suspension height. Inside, the utilitarian nature of the original CJ has been substantially dressed up. High-back front bucket seats and the rear bench are trimmed in attractive Nutmeg-colored upholstery, which continues across the dashboard pad, door panels, center armrest and padded roll-bar structure. The warm brown interior works especially well against the black exterior and Renegade graphics. A locking center console adds secure interior storage, while the hardtop and full steel doors make the Jeep considerably more usable in changing weather. The photos also show additional matching soft-door components included with the vehicle, giving the next owner additional configuration options. Instrumentation retains the classic CJ layout with the large centrally mounted 85-mph speedometer, accompanied by integrated fuel and coolant-temperature gauges and separate gauges for oil pressure and voltage. The straightforward cabin and upright driving position are quintessential CJ and a major part of the appeal of these Jeeps today. The CARFAX information supplied with the vehicle reports no accidents or damage, and the six-digit odometer currently displays approximately 90,000 miles. Because total mileage cannot be definitively verified, mileage should be considered TMU " True Mileage Unknown. Collector Appeal The CJ-7 occupies a special position in Jeep history. It retains the compact dimensions, removable top, exposed hardware and mechanical simplicity enthusiasts want from a vintage Jeep, while offering just enough additional wheelbase and comfort to make it more usable than the earlier CJ-5. This example takes that formula a step further with the right kind of upgrades: Howell EFI, an Offenhauser intake, DUI ignition, automatic transmission, lifted suspension, power steering, front disc brakes and 33-inch tires. Rather than transforming the Jeep into something unrecognizable, the modifications enhance its usability while preserving the unmistakable character of a classic CJ-7 Renegade.
