The 1939 Ford Deluxe was part of Ford's upscale De Luxe line, positioned above the Standard Ford and offering distinctive styling and appointments for the era. The 1939 models received a significant styling update, highlighted by a lower, pointed grille, redesigned front fenders, and headlights positioned farther apart in the front fenders. The Deluxe was powered by Ford's 221 cubic inch Flathead V8, an engine that had become one of the defining features of Ford automobiles since its introduction earlier in the decade. The 1939 model year was also notable for Ford introducing hydraulic brakes to its passenger cars, while the Deluxe Coupe continued to feature the classic floor-shifted 3-speed manual transmission. With its streamlined pre-war styling, Flathead V8 power, and classic two-door coupe proportions, the 1939 Ford Deluxe remains an iconic example of Ford's pre-war automobile design.
