1985 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Hardtop
""Ever since that summer job, you've dreamed of having your own Eldorado. And now you do. 1985 Eldorado. A very special Cadillac. With a style all its own and a special way of moving you like no other car. You were right all along. Eldorado is the car that dreams are made of. Best of all, it's a Cadillac."" From a 1985 print ad showing a valet parker in front of a stately, pillared building watching the driver leaving in his red Eldorado.
For consignment, a 1985 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz with a title verified 103,363 actual miles. In keeping with the Europeanization of American cars, Biarritz is named for a coastal town in the south of France, historically known for whaling, now more recognized for its surfing community.
Exterior
The ubiquitous boxy design now renders this 80's luxury car as a classic but what sets this one apart is the stainless steel roof, vinyl landau roof with coach lamp, and gold trim including the hood ornament with the Cadillac crest. There's an epic piece of stainless trim that lines the top of the front fenders and traces back to frame the cabin and none of the other GM E-body cars will have that! 15-inch wheels are dressed by wire wheel hubcaps and are wrapped in 205/75R15 tires with an early 2024 date code. Quad headlights surround a Rolls-Royce inspired grille while the tail lights remain faithful to the Cadillac brand; vertical. Imperfections are few and include chips, discolored side molding, loose rocker trim, some paint staining, and cracked bumper fillers.
Interior
The red pinstripe on the exterior sets the palette of red and white on the interior that starts on the handsome door panels that also feature plenty of warm, wood of the simulated variety. Chesterfield tufting adorns the pillow tops of the leather bucket seats while laurel branches of the logo are embroidered into the leather uppers and front and rear seats are in fantastic condition. A red steering wheel fronts a woodgrain dashboard framed in more red and features a digital dash, big stuff in '85, followed by a digital AC panel and AM/FM/Cassette radio. Plush carpet, just this side of shag, covers the floor and is a bold contrast to the seats while the headliner, visors and overhead console remain white, showing a fingerprint or two. Burgundy carpet covers the finished trunk that presents cleanly.
Drivetrain
Super clean is how we find the engine bay which holds the 4.1 liter V8, rated at 135 horsepower. It's fuel injected and mated to a TH325-4L 4-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the front axle with 3.15 gears.
Undercarriage
The underside is clean as well as a single exhaust runs down the middle taking with it a stock style muffler before exiting under the chrome bumper. Power disc brakes are at all four wheels and the fully independent suspension includes torsion bars in front and coil springs in back.
Drive-Ability
The 4.1 starts quick and provides the typical malaise period power, potent enough for daily commutes but not intended for red light races. The ride is comfortable and soft while tracking is straight and braking is excellent. We note the radio display does not light up but all other functions on this well preserved Biarritz operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
If you're a child of the 70's and 80's, it's likely your grandparent had one of these and one minute behind the wheel in the leather clad seats brings it all back! It's not to say there aren't comfortable seats in modern cars, but there will never be anything quite like the pillow topped seats and button tufting. Join the Cadillac club and bring this to every car show in your town; the time is right for people feeling nostalgic about the mid-80's E-bodies.
