1997 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Convertible
The inaugural race was held in 1994 as the Brickyard 400, and was the first race other than the Indianapolis 500 to be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1916. In its inaugural running, the Brickyard 400 became NASCAR's most-attended event, drawing an estimated crowd of more than 250,000 spectators.
For consignment, a verified mileage and consignor stated #5 parade car from the 1997 NASCAR Brickyard 400 spectacle. This 1997 Camaro Z28 has a verified consignor stating 385 original miles and has the #5 designating it was the 5th car in the pre-race parade, (AKA Festival car), where the PA inspection sticker would normally be. A virtually new car in many ways and sporting the Brickyard 400 sticker and a bevy of colorful flourishes on the side panels which end in a checkered flag graphic on the top of the rear quarter.
Exterior
Donned all in Arctic White and not a mark on it we see a stock Z28 coded Camaro shape with inset horizontal headlights deeply inset between the hood and neoprene bumper. Within this bumper is a small black egg crate grille and some signal lights that wrap around to the front quarter. On the sides we note the graphics and above the front quarter badge location is the Z28 designation, and an Indianapolis winged tire logo. Our consignment is adorned with a matching white convertible top, and C A M A R O badge in white across the top of the raked rearward windshield. When it's down it has a gray plastic molded to the car tonneau covering which matches the interior. On top of the rear trunk deck is an aero looking spoiler which is the above framing for the sleek tail lighting below. Another body matching neoprene rear bumper is below, and it is pristine with no errors noted even upon close inspection. 16-inch polished wheels with 5 spokes in a star pattern are on all 4 corners of this low, low mileage beauty.
Interior
With the drop top dropped we have a clear view of the passenger compartment and its showroom condition. Dark gray leather covered high back buckets are in front and a 2 plus 2 split bucket seat bench stretches across the back. Racing between the seats is a black undulating center console which has a storage area and houses the gear shift lever. As the center of the dash rises, it has temp knobs and controls, a blue readout digital AM/FM/CD stereo and a toggle for the power activated top. A deep inset instrument cluster with a padded overhang on top shows very clean and has a litany of analog white letter and number gauges with red pointers. Nice gray carpeting floods the floors, and like new matching gray carpeted floor mats protect the carpeting below.
Drivetrain
Under the hood most likely still with its break in oil in the sump, a 5.7 liter LT-1 EFI V8 resides. It produces 285hp and a 4L60E 4-speed automatic is on the back of this like new mill. Way back is a 10-bolt 2.73 posi rear axle.
Undercarriage
Looking very much like a 385 original mile car all is near perfect underneath. What painted stamped floor pans mix with black slightly surface rusted suspension and rear axle. Some independent coil sprung suspension adorns the front, and on the back is a torque arm and coil spring setup. Power disc brakes are on all 4 corners. Exhaust is of course like new.
Drive-Ability
With this kind of mileage we tread very lightly on the test track, so it fired right up and we did a once around and found everything to be A-OK and what more can we say!?
Although no paperwork is available to do a verification on whether this car is what it says it is, some leg work with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway may be able to you what you need. Mileage is also verifiable on the title and the overall condition speaks loudly as to its "provance" (sic).
